Holiday Travel Tip #1: How to Pack Light
On the twelfth day of Christmas the airline check-in attendant said to me, “Your luggage is too heavy.”
Recently, a travel insurance company conducted a survey of 2,000 women to find out how much the typical woman packs for a trip. According to the study, 77% of women over pack by an average of 26 items!
One fifth of the women surveyed were required to pay extra baggage fees because of it.
If you, too, over pack when you travel, try this…
Put everything you want to pack on your bed. Then, one by one, try and remove 26 items.
I did this the week before last when packing for a trip to Florida. The first 19 items were easy to remove. The next 7 were harder. But in the end, I successfully removed 26 things and never missed them on the trip.
That said, there are a few items I ALWAYS travel with. Things I’ll never remove, like square sandwich bag clips, drinking straws, garbage bag twist ties, and pantyhose (even though I never wear them).
As we head into the holiday season, it’s become a tradition to share some of our favorite travel tips of the year… so I’ll tell you why I pack these things tomorrow.
Then, for the next twelve days, as we count down to the New Year, I’ll send you a travel tip a day until December 31. I’ll also remind you about our Annual Holiday Sale where you can save 20-50% on all the get-paid-to-travel programs that can help you turn those treks into checks.
Until then, pack light and travel often!
