When I joined Great Escape Publishing’s Loyalty Club in 2008, it was such a logical choice. I discovered it after purchasing Turn Your Pictures into Cash and The Ultimate Travel Writer’s Program. Soon after, I was in San Francisco for The Ultimate Travel Writer’s Workshop and about to sign up for the China Photography Expedition.
As I listened to the presentation at that workshop about the Loyalty Club, I grabbed my pen and did some calculations. I realized I could actually save money by joining. At the time, I figured that it didn’t matter if I ever went to another event.
Little did I know how much I would enjoy my membership! Through it, I have been able to travel the world with wonderful people who share my interests, and I’ve done it with a very generous discount.
Best of all, as a Loyalty Club member, I’ve received advanced notice of these expeditions, and I’ve formed friendships that will last a lifetime and been inspired by the enthusiasm, encouragement, and ambition of my fellow members.
Through my trips to places like Tanzania, Paris, Cape Town, Quebec City, China, and Holland – to name just a few — I’ve gained photography and travel writing skills that have helped to pay for my travels and my photography equipment.
I’ve learned to sell my photos as stock and to process them to sell as fine art. I’ve written articles about my trips and served as the Photo Editor of a magazine in Seoul, South Korea. In Seoul, and in my current hometown in Virginia, I’ve taught photography to people who find me through my portfolio on my website. I’ve built that portfolio on my GEP expeditions!
I’ve also taken advantage of the discounts on workshops and programs. I’m amazed at how much travel writing and photography have evolved since I joined.
Attending workshops has really helped me keep up with the changes. For instance, at the Holland Travel Video Expedition in September, I learned about videography, something that has become possible with DSLR cameras in the past few years. Now I’m adding video to my portfolio.
Finally, I love going to events and expeditions, since I know I’ll run into friends. Following fellow members on Facebook and sharing our achievements is just the icing on the cake!
