There’s a new way to sell your photos that’s kind of like a stock agency, but inside-out.
For stock, you can take photos of whatever you like and upload them to your agencies… then you go do other things while they sell to whoever needs them.
Well, for this newer agency, photo buyers put in requests. Then you can shoot photos that match those requests. If they pick yours, you could make anywhere from a few hundred… to a few thousand dollars.
And if they don’t pick yours… you can still submit them to your regular stock agencies.
This newer agency is called Image Brief.
Here’s how it works:
When you sign up (which is free), you’ll receive “briefs” from buyers. This will include specifics about the type of photo they are looking for, the price they are willing to pay, and the usage terms.
If you have a photo that is a good match for the brief, you submit it.
If it’s selected by the buyer, then you work out the terms and sell the image. Just like that.
All of a sudden a photo that used to sit on your hard drive unseen could end up on the cover of a magazine, a book, or as part of an advertising campaign.
It’s definitely worth checking out to see if it’s a good fit for you.
Note that many buyers want first rights to the images, so you won’t use photos you already have in your agencies. But you might have photos on your computer that could work… or you could go out and shoot new ones for the brief, too. Like an assignment.
I’ve tried it a few times, and haven’t sold anything, yet, but definitely added photos to my own portfolio that I like and can possibly use for stock.
Check it out and let me know how it goes for you!

From Audrey Butterfuss: Hello! My name is Audrey and I am new to the photo stock world. Like most, I did not even know that it existed. The Breakfast Club Premium has opened up a whole new world for me. I have always loved photography and I am always shooting pictures with my phone. Now, who knows what the future holds.
From Judith Culp: Local photography shop had a 2 hour photo walk at a nature preserve. What a great experience and a LOT of photos. Talk about motivated.
From Kim Nelson: I just had my first sale, a whole 30 cents. It’s not much but it’s a great confirmation that I am moving in the right direction. The sale was on Bigstock. The funny thing is this picture was rejected by Shutterstock. It just continues to remind me to submit to multiple sites because you never know which site will accept what images, and what will sell.
