There are no cars here in Venice. No taxis. No buses. No street lights. And no smog. Venetians use waterways to get around. And when you’re photographing from floating piers, moving gondolas, or one of more than 400 bridges here, it’s hard to keep your horizon straight. Luckily, it’s a simple, two-second fix in Lightroom using the Crop tool to get it right and make our photos more saleable. Our instructor, professional photographer Rich Wagner, is giving us Lightroom processing tips as he does photo reviews each day. Here are some attendee photos from our Venice photo expedition, before and after Rich’s Lightroom edits. Notice some are simple corrections, whereas others add an artistic effect to the image. We have a helicopter pilot, a retired math and IT teacher, a CPA, a retired postal worker, an artist, a standards manager, a woman who does fundraising work for her local emergency network, a university administrator, a blogger, and a retired pharmacist. And they’ll all tell you that taking pictures is fun. If there’s ever anything that takes practice, photography has to be one of the most fun things to get better at. And what better location than Venice, Italy to practice?
