The word “science” comes to us by way of old French and is a derivative of the Latin word for knowledge, “scientia,” which comes from “scio,” meaning “I know.” Now what I know is that you are probably wondering what any of this has to do with a photo theme. Fair enough. Here’s the deal:  I always tell people to photograph what they know. So for February, I thought to make that our official goal. The photo theme, then, is: Scio, or “What I Know.” Now, I’m purposefully flinging the doors and windows wide open. We’re bound to have a free-for-all since what I know is different from what you know or the next guy knows. For instance, maybe what you know is cooking or gardening or the French horn… maybe you know about medicine or acting or flying planes… perhaps you know your neighbor, construction or art… What do you know?  Show us in a shot and be sure to add a clear description for all of us. Because, well — just because you know something doesn’t mean the rest of us will. Don’t forget to consider the Rule of Thirds… … and keep proper exposure in mind, too. You’ll find another article about that here. I hope to meet you in Austin this week! Watch the photo tip next week for January’s winners. Submissions for February’s challenge are due by 8:00 a.m. EST on Monday, February 25th. You can submit your photos by clicking on the “Enter to Win” tab on our website: http://www.thephotographerslife.com. Look for a list of January’s winners in next week’s Photo Tip. [Editor’s Note: Learn more about how you can turn your pictures into cash in our free online newsletter The Right Way to Travel.  Sign up here today and we’ll send you a new report, Selling Photos for Cash: A Quick-Start Guide, completely FREE.]
