Hey, it’s 2015! I have to say that I’m pretty excited for what lies ahead. A new year brings new opportunities to create and grow with photography!

New Years Three Image Block

This sounds great, right?

But how do you actually pull it off?

Here are some thoughts to get you started along the road to having your best year yet, photographically speaking.

  • Take pictures of something new. Whether it’s a new place or a new subject it can be incredibly refreshing to point your camera in a new direction.
  • Photograph something familiar in a new way. We don’t always have to venture to far off places to make new images. Try photographing your old favorites from an unfamiliar perspective or with a different lens than you might usually use.
  • Learn a new technique. One of the wonderful things about photography is that there is always more to learn. Maybe you’ve been curious about long exposure photography or off-camera flash. Whatever it is, pick a new technique and give it a try.
  • Set an achievable goal. Maybe this is submitting 10 new images a month to your favorite stock agency or maybe it’s learning how to organize your photos with Lightroom. The key with setting goals is to make them specific and attainable.

Last but not least, surround yourself with opportunities to learn and be inspired! There are so many ways to do this, but I believe one of the best resources is the Breakfast Stock Club Premium Membership.

When you become a premium member you get access to a vast and ever growing library of tutorials, tips, and inspiration for improving your photography and making some income in the process.

Here’s to a new year and new photographs!

From Theresa St John: I still cannot believe that I ended up in Ireland this fall, after attending two workshops offered by Great Escape Publishing in 2013 and soaking in all of the great information and challenges on BSC since I joined in 2012. I cannot believe I had the opportunity to use what I learned to take this trip of a lifetime with my 2 feet and the canon. I am amazed (and grateful!) that I was busy writing about it and photographing so many memories during the 8 days I was there. Pinch me. If you have a chance to get your butt to a workshop – I hope you go! I cannot wait to get to another one myself. 🙂 Here’s to 2015, may all of our photography/travel writing dreams come true.
