Istanbul taxi drivers are like a box of chocolates — you never know what you’re gonna get. Today, one asked me to pose for a photo and then quickly sneaked a kiss! See the photo below…. Bonnie here, again, coming to you on Day Three of our Istanbul Photo Expedition, where our instructor, Efrain Padro, is giving us lots of tips to help us all continue to improve with each day. Today, the biggest tip he gave was to “keep it simple.” When you’re traveling in a colorful place like Istanbul, it’s easy to get carried away snapping photos left and right, and forget to slow down and pay attention to what’s actually in your camera’s frame. To demonstrate, Efrain told us to go out and take a photo that’s busy and cluttered… and another photo of the same subject that’s clean and simple. Take a look at these two photos of “evil eye” symbols, taken by attendee Valerie Wickland. See how much better the second one is? All she had to do was get in a bit closer for a much cleaner, more impactful shot: By getting in close and eliminating the clutter, we have a more clean and iconic shot. I tell you, life is getting interesting here in Istanbul!  We visited a fishing village, where we saw lots of fish and met a friendly goat… We toured the Grand Bazaar, where we ate Turkish Delight and may or may not have bought too many scarves… And we saw mystical Dervishes whirl… Oh, and some taxi driver tried to kiss me… Never a dull moment on these trips! Tomorrow’s our last day, and we’re off to the Spice Bazaar and the Suleymaniye Mosque… then a farewell dinner on a rooftop above the Golden Horn. Catch the next issue for another great travel photography tip! Share on Facebook
