Bonnie, here, coming to you from Day Two of our Travel Video Expedition with videographer Tom Reissmann in Paris, France.

Today we’re collecting little video clips of all the fun things to see, do, hear, and taste in Paris. It’s a hard life, I tell ya. We have to eat crepes, taste chocolates, ogle shop windows, meander around the cobblestones, watch street performers… and visit the most iconic places in the city. Tough!

Today, Tom told us that the best way to break into the travel video market is with a sample “destination” video to show to potential clients.

It’s what we’re creating here in Paris. But you don’t have to leave home to make one. To put together a dynamic destination video, all you really need is five different kinds of moving shots. And they’re all simple shots you can take with your camera… even this afternoon, if you want.

Here’s a little video I made here in Paris to show you what they are:

This was simple and fun to create. I put it together with captions to point out what’s going on along with music to make it fun… and I did it all with Windows Movie Maker, which came with my computer for free.

While I like the action and commotion of photography — where you’re always running after the shot — video is a much, much slower pace. I found myself appreciating the quiet time and the surroundings a little differently than I do with photography.

With video, you basically set up your tripod, hit record, and let your camera run for a while. It’s actually quite relaxing.

What’s crazy is that you can sell these little clips individually as stock, then combine them all together and create a two- to four-minute promotional video for a tourism company that sells for hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

Video is huge right now. Companies know how beneficial it is to have video on their websites. Not only does it move them up to the top of Google searches… but it’s proven to turn more visitors into customers, too.

I’m off to sample a few more cheeses tonight and collect some new video clips for my Paris “sampler” video which I’ll share with you tomorrow!
