Tom Reissmann grew up in East Germany before the wall came down, so traveling wasn’t an option.

This, of course, meant that as soon as the wall crumbled, he knew exactly what he wanted to do.

Greece and Portugal and the rest of Europe were high on his list, as were the United States, Australia, and Africa.  Today, he spends his summers traveling wherever he pleases…and his winters in the sunny Canary Islands.  And he funds it all with that little magic video button on the top of his camera.

If taking saleable travel videos is something you’re interested in, and you’re attracted to the low barrier of entry and minimal competition, here’s some equipment you’ll need…

You’ll also need a video editing program like Windows Movie Maker for PC users or iMovie for Mac users.   These typically come pre-installed on your computer when you buy it.

When you’re recording video and panning from side to side, Tom says it’s important that you plan both where your movement will start AND where it will end.  If you start on something exciting but end on something boring, your viewers will notice.

It’s also important to consistently clean your lens.  Unlike in photography where a simple dust spot might go unnoticed or get removed in Photoshop, a simple dust spot in video will float through the air on your video and be incredibly noticeable as you move your camera to record.

It’s best to clean your lens before every shoot to avoid the hassle of trying to get it out later or otherwise render your video useless to buyers.
