Someone just asked me what I love about taking photos, and I had to stop and think. Taking photos is just something I’ve always done – for as long as I can remember, I’ve always carried a camera around with me (usually just a cheap point-and-shoot).

I love that I can take a picture, and it helps me remember everything about where I was and what was going on. Seeing old photos of family and friends brings back happy memories. I used to take hundreds of pictures of everything and everybody, wherever I went. Now, with digital, that number is more like thousands.

I love to capture the beauty I see all around me with my camera. I enjoy the challenge of making a really good photo – getting the lighting, the composition, the focus just right.

My camera makes me focus more on what’s going on around me and what’s important. It makes me pay more attention, really, to everything. I’m always looking for interesting details, beautiful lighting, and people doing things I can photograph.

I love the tickled feeling I get when I look back over my pictures and see a really good shot. Perfect, right out of the camera!

I’ve started sharing my photos with more than just my friends. Through Great Escape, I’ve learned about stock photography and how it’s possible to earn an income with the great shots I’d be getting anyway. It feels fantastic when I find out I’ve sold a photo. It’s even better to spot one of mine in a magazine.

I also love how my camera gives me the excuse I need to get out and about: to talk to people and get more involved, to meet people and learn more about what’s happening. For example, the Texas Wingnuts will be at Quintana Beach next weekend – these paragliders will make for some great sporty shots for the stock agencies, and they’ll be a hoot to watch.

See? My camera gives me more motivation to go out there and have fun.
