Make Short Travel Videos For A Life Of Freedom And Adventure
As a longtime journalist, I’ve worked as a freelancer most of my life. It’s a question of choice. I just can’t stand feeling trapped in an office from 9 to 5. I don’t mind hard work as long as I do what I love.
I began my journey as a videographer following a short course in documentary filmmaking. Although this style of video work is a passion, each piece is a long-term commitment – so filming much shorter pieces, like these travel videos I now create, started to look appealing.
I’m from France but have always traveled and lived abroad. Becoming a videographer brought together my passion for travel, satisfying my curiosity as a journalist and my love for filming. It allowed me to be free to do what I enjoy and get paid for it. What else could I ask for?
I started my journey working with a videographer filming for tour operators, and it brought me to visit many countries and places I had only dreamt of. Making travel videos gives you a free pass to so many exciting things to see and experience: visiting a museum when it’s closed, checking out rides in an amusement park, and more.
Not long ago, when I was living in Spain, I was selling promotional videos to local companies. It financed my daily expenses there. More recently, I moved to Canada and am working with tour companies to promote Canada as a destination.
And who knows where I’ll be filming next? It is for me alone to decide.
No one is waiting for me to show up every morning at the exact same place. There are no planned coffee breaks, and I don’t have to raise my hand to go to the ladies room. I make absolutely no distinction between my private life and my work, because my work is my passion. I can work whenever it pleases me, from wherever I choose.
And seeing as how my family and friends are all still in France, I can also plan a holiday to visit them easily. Truly, though, I don’t often need to take a break from what is really my “holiday life.” And that’s how it is when your income is attached to something you love doing.
