Hooray!!!  Today is the first day of summer! Yikes!!!  The first day of summer (and hence longest day of the year) is a Monday! No matter, we here in the Great Escape Publishing would like to celebrate the arrival of summer with a six-part series we’re calling: The Lazy Days of Summer. Sit back, relax, sip a mojito in your hammock, and get ready for six quick tips (one a day for the next six days) on selling your travel articles and photos, this summer, the Lazy Man’s way. So stay tuned.  Your first Lazy Days of Summer tip, on how to avoid taking notes when you’re researching a travel story is below… — Lori Lori Allen Director, Great Escape Publishing ********************** June 21, 2010 The Right Way to Travel Lazy Days of Summer, Lazy Man’s Tip #1: Don’t Write Anything Down ********************** In The Lazy Man’s Guide to Travel Writing, we’re all about cutting corners.  So here’s a  tip that will give you more time, this summer, to enjoy a dip in the pool, an extra-long walk with your dog, or a second cocktail in the hammock… LAZY MAN’S TIP#1: Don’t write anything down — let your camera do all the work. When you’re traveling, use your camera (or even your phone, if it has a camera in it) to photograph menus, historic plaques that include dates and details you might write about in your article, street signs, and store windows,  so you have visual clues about everything you did and saw that day. When the time comes to write your travel article, look through your photos for address and contact information for the places you want to write up, along with hours of operation, menu items, prices, and more… without having to search through your notepad scribbles! Some cameras (like those that can also record short video clips in addition to taking pictures) can also record audio notes about your trip, too.  You can use it to capture conversations with locals, keep audio notes, and even start “writing” your story out loud, recording descriptions of things you see and going back to write them down later. And let’s not forget the most obvious benefit of using your camera to record details about your trip instead of writing them down… You’ll also be able to provide your editor with pictures, which can boost your chances of getting published, make fact checking a whole lot easier, and bump up your revenue when you provide not only an article but pictures to go with it. Doubling your income by adding photos is definitely a Lazy Man’s way of getting more money out of every trip.  So is selling your travel article to multiple publications so you’re essentially writing once and getting paid twice for the same effort. The specifics on turning one trip into hundreds of travel article ideas, selling those ideas to editors with the least amount of effort, reselling the same article multiple times, and getting your ideas on paper in the shortest time possible are all Lazy Man ideas you’ll find in The Lazy Man’s Guide to Travel Writing. [Editor’s Note: Learn more about how you can turn your pictures into cash in our free online newsletter The Right Way to Travel.  Sign up here today and we’ll send you a new report, Selling Photos for Cash: A Quick-Start Guide, completely FREE.]
