The 3 Best Things About Being A Travel Blogger
Since starting my travel blog three years ago, I’ve ridden in multiple helicopters, zip lined in a cave, and rowed on a dragon boat race team.
I have eaten dinner in an Amish family’s home, attended media previews of new attractions, and enjoyed private behind-the-scenes tours of theaters and museums.
Earlier this year, I even made a guest appearance on television.
Having the opportunity to travel and to do exciting things, at little or no cost to me, is what I love best about having a travel blog. It isn’t the only thing I like about it, though. Here are more great things about being a travel blogger:
You will meet interesting people
People enjoy telling their story, and I enjoy listening. Each person’s story is unique and fascinating. Just one example: the antique shop owner who told the story of a local chamber executive “discovering” her at an antique show and helping her to open a retail shop. Another: A town historian who explained how he started a ghost tour business after doing research for several locals who had experienced strange occurrences in their homes.
Your network and social circle will expand
Once you start a travel blog, you’ll begin networking with other bloggers through social media. If you have a question or a problem, your blogger network will have an answer for you. You may meet some of them in person on press trips or at conferences, and some will become great friends.
It’s a stepping-stone to other opportunities
Travel bloggers will often use their blog as a stepping-stone to other opportunities. For instance, some branch into writing freelance articles for magazines. Others become social media experts, helping small businesses grow an online presence. Still others speak at conferences, sharing their expertise with less-experienced bloggers. These are just a few of the many doors that blogging can open for you.
You never know where your travel blog may take you, travel-wise or career-wise, but it’s a great way to start exploring your options.
