I’d like to be upfront about this… Only a portion of my photography income comes from stock.  The rest comes from weddings, portraits and headshots, and I actually make more from the latter than I do from my stock agencies. But here’s the thing – I’m not uploading photos to my online agencies much these days, and I’m still making money.  That’s what I love best about selling my photos this way… Even while I’m out doing other things, the stock photos I sent in last year are still selling.  I just collect a check.  And I’m not the only one. Stock photographers Steve Collender and Danny Warren told me the same thing earlier this year.  Each earns nearly a third or more of their income through their online stock portfolios.  And neither is doing much in world the way of uploading new shots these days. What holds most people back from this kind of success is exactly what held me back when I first started. You think you’re not good enough.  You think you’re not ready.  When it comes time to actually sit down and upload your photos, you chicken out and find something else to do (watch TV, sit on the couch, shop…). So here’s my challenge for you today… Go to these three sites and apply to be a stock photographer: 1. Shutterstock.com 2. iStockphoto.com 3. Dreamstime.com In some cases, they’ll ask you to take a short quiz (don’t worry, it’s “open book”). And in others, they’ll ask you to send in some sample photos. Once you’re in, you’re in. You’re ready to start selling. It’s action that’s the hardest part.  Not the photography.  That’s the fun part. So, do it this weekend and tomorrow I’ll show you what to do next. Share on Facebook
