Looking through the submissions from our recent Travel Stock Challenge, I saw so many great shots, but a few really stood out. One thing all these photos had in common was great LIGHT.

The time of day you go out photographing really matters. If you can find the right light for your subject, it will help give your image that ‘wow’ factor.

Let’s look at some member images to see what I’m talking about:

ElisaElden
By Elisa Elden.

Gorgeous, golden sunrise light adds so much to the mood of this photo. Elisa made a great decision to get out early with her camera, making the most of this beautiful view.

KayHaggard
By Kay Haggard.

Light and shadows play a huge role in this creative shot. Kay spotted and used dramatic lighting to transform an ordinary bench into beautiful art!

Stahleck Castle on the Mosel River in Germany
By Jenny Pommer.

Sometimes a scene needs soft, even lighting such as Jenny captured in this lovely, peaceful landscape.

PattiHolt
By Patti Holt.

Notice how the light here feels dark and ominous, giving this image a very compelling and different story than beach shots taken under sunny skies.

Our next Summer Sprints Challenge – Going Green is underway! As you get out and photograph for it, don’t forget to work with the light!
